Should You Workout Alone Or In A Group?

WE;ve talked a lot about group fitness here on Class To Closet, everything from yoga classes to group personal training. But how do you know if group classes are even for you? Today I'm sharing with you a few tips to help you think about if you should work out alone or in a group. I would say from personal experience, I like a little bit of both. Some days I like being in a room full of women who are trying to achieve the same goals I am. However, I have my days where I just want to be alone outside on a long, long run.





Like Community Support?
You should workout in a group. Having your girlfriends in the same spin class as you can be very motivating. When your friends are encouraging you to continue and work harder, you feel their motivation. Peer support can be a great motivator.

Get Stressed Easily?
You should workout alone. When you're alone outside in the fresh air and surrounded by nature, you will feel at ease. However, if your chatty BFF is on that run with you, you might end up feeling even more stressed.

Do You Get Social Butterflies?
You should workout alone. Some people really do get anxiety over having to chat with others. If this is the case, you should definitely workout alone. Your hour a day working out should not make you feel anxious, in fact it should make you feel at ease. HOWEVER, if you're trying to work on your social anxiety; group fitness classes once in awhile could help!

Like To Race?
You should workout in a group. Are you the runner on the treadmill that is racing the person next to you even though they have no clue? If so, you feel motivated by others. There is nothing wrong with this! The intense workout habits of others motivaties you, so you should try out group classes!

Welcoming a New Year always means welcoming in new stationary. I love getting a new planner and new stationary at the beginning of the year. I'm always looking for ways to try to stay on task and stay organized, and something I struggle with is sending thank you cards. 5 Things To Know Before Your First Yoga Class

I recently shared with you what to wear when you are practicing yoga, and today I'm going to share with you a few tips you should be aware of before you go to your first yoga class! If this is your first class, you can definitely feel intimidated. However, I'm hoping these few tips will help you feel right at home!





1. Arrive Early. Try to show up to class around 10-15 minutes before the scheduled time. Just in case there's paperwork to fill out, you want to be there early and be ready. If you show up a little early, you can pick out a spot in the back (...I like the back....) and maybe even introduce yourself to the teacher. Tell her it's your first time in class!

2. Trust The Teacher. Sure, moving at your teachers pace might be difficult to keep up with. However, try to stay with her and the rest of the class. This most likely isn't her first class and she most likely has an idea of what she's doing!

3. You Don't Need Socks Or Gloves. The sticky yoga socks and gloves you see in the stores are targeted for beginners, however there's no reason you actually need those! 

4. Don't Go To Class With A Full Stomach. With all of the moves and twists, your stomach will not be able to digest food like it's suppose to. Eat an hour, or more, before.

5. Grab All The Props. If you didn't bring your own mat, see if your studio has one for rent. Also pick up whatever additional props you need for that specific class.

How Dirty Is Your Fitness Tracker? + How To Clean It




I don't know about you, but I wear two fitness trackers every single day. I wear my Fitbit the whole day and my Polar watch during my workouts. The other day I got to thinking, "How dirty is this thing?". It definitely depends on what type of tracker you have and how often you use it for how many germs are actually on it. If you're wearing it to the gym on a daily basis, you sweat on them, your dead skin and body oils collect on them, they touch all of the nasty germs at the gym. It is definitely important to clean your trackers at least once a week. 

But how?

I would not recommend to throw the tracker in the washing machine, but to wash it by hand. It's important you think about what type of tracker you have and if water will effect it. Most of them are water resistant, however you can never be too careful. If the electronic part comes out of your accessory (like the Fitbit Flex), take it out and let the band soak in soap and water. I would recommend using your everyday dish detergent. If you cannot take out the electronic part out of your band (like the Jawbone Up 24), I would recommend wiping the whole thing down with rubbing alcohol. Rubbing alcohol will get rid of all the germs and is safe for electronics!

Online Shopping On A Budget

I get a lot of questions from younger readers about where they can shop online that is affordable. I talk a lot about higher end department stores and places like J.Crew and I definitely understand that those stores are not in everyone's budgets. Today I'm sharing with you a wholesale clothing website I found that has some great prices! The wholesale website is ApparelCandy.com.  I've bought things from wholesale online shops before, when I was in HS actually, and you usually get decent clothing for a decent price. I will say you should take it with a grain of salt however, because you need to remember these items most likely aren't going to be as 'nice quality' as something from Nordstrom. 

With that being said, I did find some great pieces from Apparel Candy that are on my wishlist and today I'm sharing them with you! If you are on a tight budget, or like to save money, I would definitely check out Apparel Candy to revamp your wardrobe!

What To Wear To Yoga

I get a lot of questions on what I wear when I'm preforming a certain workout. Today I'm sharing with you a few of my favorite pieces for yoga!




The most important thing about yoga is tight/form fitting clothes. It doesn't matter if you're practicing hot yoga, yoga in the park, by yourself at home, or in a studio; you always want to wear form fitting clothes. Nothing is more annoying then having to fix your clothing when you're suppose to be relaxing during your yoga class.

Spring Semester Talk





I cannot believe that it's time for another semester. Awhile ago I opened up to you talking about how I was so confused with the direction of my life and had no clue what I wanted to do as a career. I was certain I was suppose to be a teacher, however when I got into the classroom, I did not enjoy it as much as I thought I would. I spent hours on hours at two different elementary schools and did enjoy the time I spent there, but for some reason I did not see myself doing it for the rest of my life. I don't have a great deal of patience. I am unable to act like a mother to 25+ kids at all times. I do not agree with common core. 

So with all of this information I sat down and made pros and cons lists. I figured that teaching wasn't for me, and I was okay with it. My parents were okay with it. Sure, I basically wasted two semesters of college (I am now a whole year behind...) but it's better I figured it out now instead of 10 years from now.

Well anyways, I now am majoring in Communications and minoring in business. It's going to take me five years total, but if all goes well, I'll be graduating the same year as Tyler. I have to move to a different school in the fall, in a different city. There's a lot changing, however I'm excited. 

I get asked all the time what I'm going to do with a communications degree. Well if you know me in my 'online life', aka what I enjoy doing, you know I love social media. I blog, I have a YT channel, I run a twitter & insta all for my business. I enjoy doing that. So maybe I'll work social media for a company. I can also see myself in the Public Relations department for a company. I would love to work in PR for a fashion or fitness company. 

My biggest thing about education vs communications, was that education was SO narrow. The only thing I could do with an edu degree is teach. However with communications, I can do so much. I'm excited for this spring semester because I'm taking communication classes that will put me in the right direction.

Top Fitness Trends For 2015

2015 is in full swing, and I hope y'all haven't given up your resolutions yet! If getting in shape was at the top of your list, good news. I've got a handful of the trendiest fitness obsessions of 2015! I feel as if some of these have been talked about for awhile, but in 2015 everyone is going to be doing them! So start early, and jump on the bandwagon!




1. HIIT
HIIT workouts = high intensity interval training. These types of workouts alternate between short then high bursts. Say you're running: walk for a minute, sprint for two minutes. These types of workouts burn the most fast in the shortest amount of time.

2. Personal Training
One on one workouts are going to be where you see the most results. Sure, it might be more expensive, however your personal trainer can help you with specific goals for yourself.

3. Group Personal Training
Want to have personal training, cut the cost, and be able to socialize? Opt for group personal training. You will still be able to set personal workouts and goals, you'll just be doing it with your girlfriends!

4. Strength Training
We now know that if women do toning and strength workouts, as well as cardio, they aren't going to bulk up but tone up. Strength training not only tones you, but has a lot of health benefits like boosting your mood to boosting your memory. 

5. Fitness For Older Adults (AKA our parents)
More and more research is coming out talking about how beneficial working out is as we age. Therefore, older adults are now starting to workout more to slow down aging.

Snowed In Essentials


Looking at this weeks weather forecast all I see is rain, snow, snow, snow. Therefore, I decided I would put togther a handful of my snowed in essentials. Here in Ohio, we tend to get a lot of snow between December-March. When I was in grade school, we would have a handful of snow days where I would go outside and sled with all of the neighborhood kids. However, now that I'm older, I like to stay in with a good cup of coca and watch Netflix and read good books. I also threw in a few essentials if you're actually going to go out and face the cold!

Five Step Facial + Products

Was one of your New Years Resolutions to work on your completion? If so, or if not, today I'm sharing with you my weekly facial routine. I think giving yourself an at home facial is so, so important. Not only for your skin, but for your mental health as well! I love getting to relax for 10-20 minutes a week with a face mask on and a glass of wine in hand. When you give yourself an at home facial it definitely isn't as expensive as a spa and you get to do it in your own home! I'm sharing with you my go to 5 step facial + my favorite products!







1. Every Day Cleanser - Start off my using your every day cleanser to get your makeup off and clear your skin of any excess oils.

2. Scrub Cleanser - When using a scrub, this will help get rid of dead skin cells. It will also help your facemask to get deeper in the skin.

3. Face Mask - You can make one or use a store boughten one. You can also use one designated for your specific skin type and goals. My favorites are linked below.

4. Toner - A toner will balance your pH levels that might have gotten a little wacky from using an intense mask.

5. Moisturizer + Facial Oil - Depends on your skin and regular routine, follow up with any moisturizers you would use.
