Fall/Winter Coat Shopping

I live in the Midwest and that basically means snow snow snow and negative temps. Nothing is worse then having to walk around a college campus when it's literally freezing outside. I decided this year is the year I'm going to splurge on a nice winter coat. I've always just worn a Columbia Jacket or a Northface Jacket (which I still plan to wear just not when it's in the negatives!) and they just aren't cutting it anymore. So I spent some time (… maybe a few hours) on the L.L. Bean site looking at nice winter jackets. For some reason, I really want one from there. I think that the quality of my Bean boots I got from there is just top notch and I feel like the coat will be the same.
I picked out a few and I want you to tell me what you think in the comments! I'm just looking for a basic coat to keep me warm and will go with basically everything!!

  1. I live in Chicago so I know juuuust what you mean. It gets to the point where you pop into a Walgreens during your commute just to warm up, haha. I love your first two picks- I feel like they'd be so fun to dress up with chunky knit scarves and pompom beanies :)

  2. I have the quilted riding jacket in black and I absolutely love love love it!!! I've had it since last February and it is perfect for fall and early spring (you'll want something thicker for temperatures under 45F). My roommate actually just bought the exact same one in navy last weekend; She borrowed mine for an event, and loved it so much that she had to get her own! The sizing/sleeves can be a little tricky, but I highly recommended it!

  3. I have been thinking about this too. I live in Kentucky, so it's not really the midwest, but holy mother of the lord what a winter we had last year. I have been thinking about getting one of these too. The last two are my favorites. Glad you liked the Bean boots because I have been considering them myself.

  6. I would say go with a coat with a hood. That way you don't have to worry about your ears getting cold. Also you wouldn't need to carry a beanie on you.

  7. I like all of these coats. My favorite is the first one followed by the fourth one.

  8. I'm from Canada so I hear ya on the snow and temperature! For me quality warm coats always trump style in the winter! I've never tried an LL Bean one (we don't really have that here) but I love the quilted one! xx

  9. I'm totally grooving the Adirondack Barn Coat. I'm a sucker for the olive green lately. Maybe I ought to branch out. However, I live in southern California. We're lucky if we get rain! :] // itsCarmen.com ☼ ☯

  11. The 3-rd jacket I think will be good to more styles, versatile, I like for me a piece like a trench as aspect to suit with dresses, more classy.

  14. Love them all! Puffer jackets are always going to be the best in the practical sense, but not necessarily the cutest of the bunch. You definitely need a hood, too! But I am so in love with the 2nd one... hmmmmm, I'd have to go with the 3rd for best all around functionality and style. I do recommend trying on (if possible), since you never know how truly thick it is until you wear it yourself. But with those options, and the quality of LL Bean, you can't go wrong :)

  15. My vote goes to the first one! It's classic but stylish, too.

  16. Omgosh the first quilted coat is PERFECT! LL Bean is definitely great quality, you are so right on that. However, I do have a coat (from Tommy Hilfiger) similar to the last puffer coat on the list, and it was such a great investment. It's cute but great for keeping warm in freezing temperatures! It's also nice for going over layers since it's bigger to start with anyway :)

  17. Even if I don't go to school in a cold place (... kinda the opposite) I still hate walking to class cold. Especially if it's early in the morning. As for your picks, the second and third are my favorites :)

  20. I love LL Bean. The equestrian quilted jacket is my favorite, but I already have about 12 of those jackets so I don't think I'm going to buy another one! It sure is lovely though!
