Class to Closet: September 2014

Tuesday, September 30, 2014

Today we're getting a little personal and I'm sorry. I need some girlfriend advice and I feel like there's no one better to turn to then y'all.

Here we are, my junior year of college and how am I feeling… confused. I always wanted to be a teacher, always. However, as I started my college career many people talked me out of it. So I started with a major in psychology, changed to journalism, changed to nutrition, changed to business, changed to communications/pr, then changed to education. I thought I was finally there.. I finally decided to be a teacher and this was it. Sure the money isn't any good (when will the government ever understand that…) but it's one of the most rewarding things.

Well, how do you know? How do you know that's it and you're suppose to do that for the rest of your life? I mean I enjoy being around children, but I ONLY want to teach second grade. By second grade they understand school and know how to tie their shoes but don't get into many fights like they do in older grades. My license would be pre-3, therefore there's a slim chance I would actually get the opportunity to teach second. Do I really want to have to rely on children for my pay and job security for the rest of my life. Will I even have enough patience after 5 years. Do I really want to continue to go to school and take classes year after year. If I move will I be willing to 'buy back' the years I taught in a different state.

As you can tell, I'm lost. I'm not sure about my major, I'm not sure about the college I go to, I'm just not sure. How am I suppose to go on with my life not having a clue what I want to do with it.

Someone asked me "what do you do in your spare time, what do you enjoy doing"? Well, I've been doing YouTube and blogging for the past 4 years and I adore it. However, it surely doesn't pay the bills. So the 'big girl' job of this would be PR or something with communications. When I was in the major before, I took two classes and I really did like them.

So that's it.. change to PR. Well if only it was that easy. Of course (as if anyone's surprised) my college does not offer communications or PR. So that means one of two things: 1. Commute to a college that's around 45 minutes away or 2. Move and live alone at a college that does.

So that's where my thoughts have been lately. It's sort of hard to be in a full schedule of education classes and having no clue if that's what your future holds. But I guess I'll take it one day at a time and try to figure it out.

Army Green, Stripes, & Pleather… Oh My

Shirt: Sams Club (Hold the phone.. I didn't even know they sold clothing)
Pants: Meijer
Boots: Meijer
Sunglasses: Ray Ban
Watch: MK
Bracelet: Bauble Bar

I would say wine, plum, and army green are my favorite fall colors. When I saw these army green thick leggings at Meijer I knew I had to have them! I love pairing them with a simple top and riding boots. Today the weather was 75 and sunny so I could get away with just a light weight teeshirt and pants! It's so nice not having to wear a coat yet!

I hope you had a great week and enjoy your weekend! TGIF!

Fall/Winter Coat Shopping

I live in the Midwest and that basically means snow snow snow and negative temps. Nothing is worse then having to walk around a college campus when it's literally freezing outside. I decided this year is the year I'm going to splurge on a nice winter coat. I've always just worn a Columbia Jacket or a Northface Jacket (which I still plan to wear just not when it's in the negatives!) and they just aren't cutting it anymore. So I spent some time (… maybe a few hours) on the L.L. Bean site looking at nice winter jackets. For some reason, I really want one from there. I think that the quality of my Bean boots I got from there is just top notch and I feel like the coat will be the same.
I picked out a few and I want you to tell me what you think in the comments! I'm just looking for a basic coat to keep me warm and will go with basically everything!!

I saw these loafers and FELL IN LOVE. There was nothing wrong about them. I am in love with cheetah (it's a neutral right?) and the little tassels on them made them that much cuter. Spirit Jersey Love

Spirit Jersey & Yoga Pants: VS Pink
Boots: Meijer
Sunglasses: Ray Ban

I'm not going to lie, if I could wear a spirit jersey and yoga pants every day, I MOST DEFINITELY would. This is my go to outfit when I want to be comfortable but not feel like I'm in my PJ's. I honestly love a good spirit jersey. I laugh at myself every time I put one on because they are definitely not a midwest type of clothing piece. They are the definition of southern style, but I like to think I'm a southern belle so who cares ;). No one around here gets the hype of spirit jerseys, but that might be why I love mine a little more.

In other news, wearing this Toronto spirit jersey made me really miss the city. Tyler and I had the most wonderful time when we went back in March. I would drop everything to go again!

Hope you're having a good week..

Fall Flannels

Flannel: Meijer
Jeans: LC Lauren Conrad
Boots: Meijer
Necklace: Meijer
Bag: Rebecca Minkoff Cupid
Sunglasses: Ray Ban

I hate to say it, but I'm a "Common White Girl" who loves her flannels and boots in the fall. There, I admit it.. but honestly, what could be better? Fall is my favorite season. Between my birthday, pumpkin everything, cozy clothing, and the leaves changing I just love the season. I think it's so easy and effortless to throw on a flannel with jeans or leggings and run out the door. It's the perfect outfit for running errands or going to class.

I just wanted to thank everyone for the birthday wishes! Y'all are too sweet! Make sure to follow me on Instagram to see pictures of my birthday weekend and into my life!

On My Radar: Pinterest Pins

Today I thought I would share with you some of my new favorite pins from Pinterest.  I adore Pinterest for inspiration whether it's fashion, food, fitness, makeup, or home decor! These are a few of my current favs, and I didn't even mean for them to mostly be fall related! Just too excited for fall!!

I've been loving looking at fall fashion inspiration. Since I've been changing my style to a little bit more of a preppy look, these types of polyvore collages have been so helpful! Totally into plaid, bean boots, and vests for this fall!!

For some reason, I enjoy looking at other people's offices so, so much. I can imagine myself sitting at this desk doing homework, browsing blogs, and so much more. Such a chic work space!

This DIY glitter leaves idea is so stinkin cute! Who doesn't love a little bit of glitter to spice up their rooms? I think this would be so cute to put glitter on about 10 leaves then put them into a vase!

What a great stinkin' idea this is for a drink cooler made out of a pumpkin! So festive and actually a useful idea!!

I hope you enjoyed taking a peek into my favorite pictures, be sure to follow me on Pinterest!

Getting Older

Today marks my 21st birthday. Where in the world did the time go? I honestly feel like I'm 16 or 17.. but here I am.. 21 years old.. a junior in college. It's crazy to think about how fast time goes and how much faster it goes as you get older. If we're being honest, today I'm spending my day in class then going out to dinner with Tyler, my parents, and a few other family members. Friday I'm getting together with a girlfriend to go out for margs and Saturday Tyler and I are going to go shopping all day and probably a nice dinner.

I wanted to talk about a few things I've learned by age 21.

It's okay to be confused | I always wanted to be an elementary school teacher growing up. As I got older I changed my mind 1500 times, but always came back to teaching. Everyone tried to talk me out of it. After following my heart I decided it was the right thing for me to do. I know myself best, and I think that's what's important.

A job shouldn't make you miserable | I've had my fair share of part time jobs. A pizza shop, Bed Bath and Beyond, Aeropostale, Meijer, and a few others. I think you have to realize what you enjoy. Retail, food, office, ect. If it makes you miserable, it isn't worth it. I don't care if you make $8 or $25 an hour, the money isn't what makes you happy. Whether you're working a part time job while in school or you're working a full time career, make sure it makes you happy.

School is important | I didn't give a damn in high school about my grades. I wanted to have a good time and spend time with my friends. I got decent grades and got into every college I applied to. However, when I hit college everything changed. I cared about my school work because I cared about my future. If I want to have a career in teaching, I have to succeed in my own education first.

Do more of what makes you happy | I started a pure fashion blog 3 years ago and I loved it. Then I went into YouTube and loved making beauty and fashion videos. Now I'm here with this lifestyle blog.  I still love making videos on YouTube (please come check them out if you haven't!) but I LOVE this blog. It's my baby. There's something about writing and taking pictures and connecting with other people who share the same passion that you do.
